Cyril Barnard Memorial Prize 2005
Jean Shaw was presented with the Cyril Barnard Memorial Prize for services to librarianship by Tom Roper, HLG Chair, following the HLG presentation at the Online Information Exhbition at Olympia, London, November 2005.

Jean's distinguished career included being the first librarian of the Medical School in Leicester and she has contiued to be professionally active since her retirement in 1995. She has edited the Eahil Newsletter and has led Partnerships in Health Information for over ten years. Jean highlighted the importance of the international role, pointing out that disease is no respecter of international boundaries and that those who are involved in combatting it can derive great benefits from working internationally.
History
The Cyril Barnard Memorial Prize was announced by the Medical Section of the Library Association in 1959 and was awarded for the first time in 1962 in memory of Cyril Barnard. The prize is awarded by the Health Libraries Group Committee in recognition of outstanding services to medical librarianship and is awarded every three years.
