Connecting people and knowledge: rather than collecting information
With the publication of the Hill Review, Darzi and World Class Commissioning, Knowledge Management has been brought more centre stage in the NHS. Rachel Cooke will describe some of the current KM developments in this sector: including the drive for each NHS organisation to have a Chief Knowledge Officer (CKO) and its impact on healthcare library services.
During 2008 Rachel was on secondment to the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, as their KM Fellow. Rachel was able to link her Fellowship activity to development of the CKO program and to gain a deeper understanding of how to create sustainable healthcare improvement. The use of knowledge plays a key part in creating improvement.
