HLG CPD Panel Members
The HLG CPD Panel would welcome new members. The CPD Panel meets 4 times a year, in London. Travelling expenses are paid by HLG. A large part of the Panel’s work is organising study days HLG members, and it is also involved in a range of other activities aimed at improving CPD opportunities for our members. As a CPD Panel member, we would expect you to come to meetings and contribute your ideas and views and to help to organise study days. Don’t worry if you have never done this sort of thing before as we provide a lot of support. You will find that being on the CPD Panel is a learning opportunity in itself and will give you the chance to enhance skills such as team-working, organising and negotiating.

Conference Director/Conference Programme Lead
These are exciting and challenging opportunities to get involved in organising a major conference. The HLG Conference is held every 2 years, in the years when Umbrella does not take place so the next one will be in 2010. HLG uses the CILIP Conference Services and they handle most routine organisational matters and can offer advice and support to the HLG conference team
The Conference Director oversees the organisation of the conference, from deciding on the theme, format, dates and venue to choosing the menus. The Programme Lead puts together the conference programme from the call for abstracts through to finding people to chair the sessions.
Organising the HLG Conference is very much a team effort; the Conference Director and Programme Lead work closely together and also appreciate the help of other HLG members who volunteer to be on the Conference Committee.
Pauline Blagden and Michelle Wake were Conference Director and Programme Lead respectively for the Eastbourne and Cardiff Conferences. They are now standing down due to other commitments but would be pleased to talk to anyone interested in the conference roles.

HLG Umbrella Rep
The next Umbrella Conference will take place on 14th15th July 2009 at the University of Hertfordshire and HLG needs a rep for the Conference Committee. It is a great opportunity to see behind the scenes and meet CILIP leaders. You will be expected to represent HLG at the four conference committee meetings in London (expenses paid by CILIP), liaise with other group reps to organise speakers, liaise with the CILIP conference organiser, contact speakers with conference information and organise a time and venue for the HLG AGM.
