FAQs

I am interested in working overseas as a librarian. Can you help?

While CILIP's information sheet 'Working Overseas Tips and Guidance' is being revised please contact CILIP's Information Services Department Tel: 020 7255 0620 or Email: info@cilip.org.uk

What are the activities of the Group and what would I get out of being a member?

All members receive the Group's journal Focus on International Library and Information Work, published three times a year.  Focus includes a rich and varied mix of international articles, which is much praised by readers.  We arrange our own meetings - the ILIG Informals - as well as running seminars and contributing to UmbrelLA and other conferences.

Where/how does the Group fit into the wider CILIP agenda and how does it contribute?

We see the Group as the international conscience of CILIP, making sure that the latter keeps a global perspective whenever possible, contributes strongly to the promotion of library and information work in other parts of the world, and gives the best possible service to the overseas members. We do this by lobbying and promoting international contacts, our membershp of the Policy Forum.

How many people are members? How many of these are overseas or UK based?

We have around 800 members of whom about a third are overseas, that is, based outside the U.K.
