Hosts Directory

The Career Development Group and ILIG maintain a directory of members who are willing to act as short term hosts to overseas library and information workers visiting the UK.

The Directory aims to assist library and information workers from all parts of Europe and from further afield to travel more widely. The expectation is that no one host will normally have a visitor stay for more than three days; and, generally, bed and breakfast charges will be waived or minimal. Opportunities are provided for both guests and hosts.

For the guest the advantages are:

  • They get to know a fellow library/information worker in the UK and to experience a little of the person's professional and cultural way of life
  • Affordable accommodation for a few days in a strange but (hopefully) welcoming country.

For the host it provides a chance to:

  • Get to meet colleagues from other countries
  • Learn more about library/information work in that country
  • Extend their range of international contacts
  • Contribute in a small way to building bridges to international understanding and cooperation
  • The International Relations Officer of the Career Development Group holds a copy of the Directory's database, which is not given wider circulation.

The only criteria for joining are:

  • Sufficient floor or bed space to sleep a guest
  • An interest in people
  • Some interest in international matters

We are looking for members from all over the UK. So why not get involved? If you would like to add your details to the directory please complete the application form below and send to:
