ILIG Informals
These are not lectures; they are informal, but informative, early evening meetings with a short talk on a theme of international interest plus plenty of time for questions and networking. Light refreshments are served which is why we ask people to let us know, by using the
Acceptance slip
, that they are coming.
Informals are
free
and open to all. They are usually held at CILIP, 7 Ridgmount Street, London WC1E 7AE, on a Wednesday evening from 1800 - 1945. Brief details of the theme and speaker/s for Informals are given on the ILIG Home page. Fuller details will be given here. In addition details are sent to ILIGlist and to the CILIP Calendar of events. [Use this link for

From Uganda to the UK, in Search of International Professional Development
You are invited to join us for this Informal when
Gloria Asiimwe
, who will spend five weeks on a study visit to a number of libraries and information centres in the UK, will be interviewed by Maria Cotera on her experiences as a recent LIS graduate from Uganda and what she hopes
to achieve from this trip.
During her course in records management, Gloria has acquired knowledge and skills in cataloguing, classification, database management, automation of records using management systems and website development among others; much of the course units she has studied have been mainly theory because the school does not have adequate facilities such as computers. Gloria is hoping to acquire more practical skills as well as learning new things during her study visit to the UK, 5th Sept -12th Oct.
There will be time to talk to Gloria informally after the interview, and to share international experiences with other attendees over a glass of wine.
All welcome, specially LIS students, new entrants to the profession, and those with a special interest in international matters within the profession.
This a joint event with
CDG
London & South East Divisions. It will be held in Charter Suite East at CILIP - address above.
