Public Library Authorities Conference 2005
Knowledge, Innovation, Understanding...the emerging public library


19 - 21 October 2005
Chesford Grange, Kenilworth, Warwickshire

The Conference covered the following topics:

· As Framework for the Future is rolled out in what direction will government – local and national – take the library service? What will make libraries important? How will we resource future change?

· When children, young people and families top the Government agenda what is the role for libraries? What can the growing generations of young people learn through libraries in the next ten years?

· How will libraries make a meaningful contribution to the learning society and the knowledge economy? What kind of library service can we deliver through new technologies? Is literature and discourse a better platform for a creative service?

· How should we manage the business of libraries? Leadership, marketing, national partnerships, sustainable technology and modern library buildings … what priorities will ensure continuous improvement?


The Conference featured:
· David Lammy - Minister for Culture, Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart of the LGA, and Dan Walters - President of the US Public Libraries Group.
