Abstract This research investigates managerial attitudes to some key ideas concerning the organisational design of hybrid libraries. It establishes the general theoretical base for the management of organisations operating in similar circumstances, and considers the treatment of hybrid libraries in the literature of librarianship.A questionnaire administered to UK library directors obtained responses to the key areas of organisational structures, communication, the management of electronic/digital information, skills, learning and development, teams, leadership and the degree of change in the roles of senior and middle management.
This research was funded by the LIRG/Elsevier Research Award.
