Shirley Ward (Acting Chair & Treasurer)

Shirley Ward is currently Liaison Team leader at the University of Bolton, responsible for managing the team of subject librarians, co-ordinating liaison with academics and students, the induction process, and study skills training.
Her main interests are study skills, information skills and information literacy in higher education
She is also a university Learning and Teaching Fellow, leading a project to devise an Information Literacy policy for the university.
Shirley was a founder member of the ‘reformed’ North West group of UC&R, and holds the office of Treasurer.

Jane Marshall (Secretary)

Jane is currently Business Information Officer at Manchester Business School, in the Eddie Davies Library. Her work encompasses provision of business information to both commercial and MBA/PG student users, and includes user education, marketing and project management, with particular reference to executive education and alumni services. She is active on Business School and Library committees, including the School’s Executive Education Board and the Library’s Staff Training and Development Action Group.
Jane was formerly co-events organiser for CILIP North West branch and in 2003 she was one of a group of NW based librarians who revitalised the dormant NW section of UC&R. She has been Secretary of UC&R North West section for the last four years and is currently Marketing Officer for UC&R National Group.

Dawn Grundy (Web Officer)

Dawn has been a part of UC&R since 2006; she started her time on the group as the student representative, after doing a presentation on Charter Mark for the group. She now holds the role as web editor for the group. Dawn has worked at the University of Bolton since 1996, after a short stint at John Rylands University Library of Manchester.
Her current role is an Information Officer where she has responsibility for two project teams. Dawn qualified from MMU this summer after five years doing the part time Library and Information Management degree. She is currently working towards her Chartership and professional interests include user feedback and service quality.

David Crook

After graduating in history and taking a postgraduate qualification in library and information studies at the University of Sheffield, David initially worked in academic libraries at Bradford University, John Rylands, Manchester and MMU.
In 1982 David joined the newly formed Public Lending Right Office with responsibility for liaising with public libraries on the supply of loans data.
In 1985 he joined the office of the Data Protection Registrar with responsibility for developing codes of best practice for the Education (and other) sectors.
David then worked for 2 different companies (SLS and SIRSI) involved in the supply of library management systems.
Immediately prior to joining the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) in 2000, he worked on a 2 year fixed term UNESCO project developing a Distance Learning package for use by library school students in India.
At CLA, David is the Account Manager for Higher Education, with responsibility for promoting understanding of CLA's Higher Education Trial Licence

Liz Jolly

Liz is Associate Director (Services and Operations) in the Information Services Division (ISD) at the University of Salford. ISD delivers a portfolio of services including library services, student and academic computing, and corporate information network and telephony services. Liz’s current responsibilities include: library services and collection management; integrated library and ICT customer support and enquiry services and university audiovisual and design and print services and telephony operations. Previously Liz was Head of Customer Services in ISD. She has also worked at East London, London South Bank, Huddersfield, Leeds Metropolitan, Lincoln and Manchester Metropolitan Universities.
Liz has been Chair of the University, College and Research Group since 2004 and serves as the Group’s CILIP Councillor. She was inaugural Chair of UC&R North West Section from 2003-4. Her professional interests include: the student experience development of libraries as spaces for learning and academic collaboration; staff learning and professional development; integrated library and computing services and cross-sectoral partnerships.

Sarah Mallen

Currently Information Manager at University of Manchester Careers and Employability Division. Managing information provision & the enquiry & appointments service. Sarah completed her PgDip at MMU in 1996. Her first professional post was as a solo librarian at a sixth form college in Salford, chartering in 1998. She is currently involved in training for information staff for AGCAS (the professional body for HE careers staff.)and CPD within her own department.

Susan Murray

Susan has been Deputy Director (Library) at Liverpool Hope University when the library & IT services were converged in 2005, taking on day to day responsibility for the running of the library. Previously Susan was Deputy Manager at Liverpool Hope.
Susan has been involved with Staff Development committees for Libraries Together: Liverpool Learning Partnership and North West Academic Libraries (NoWAL) and is currently Chair of the NoWAL Access & Borrowing group.
