About Special Interest Groups

Every Member of CILIP is entitled to join two Special Interest Groups free of charge. Just as CILIP Membership is a gateway to a professional library and information network, Group Membership provides the opportunity to share news and views relating to more specific areas of the information world. Members of CILIP Groups automatically receive the Group’s newsletter and/or journal, as well as information on other publications and Group events. See List of Groups that outlines each Group, helping to identify those most relevant to you. And if your areas of interest change, Group Membership is flexible to change with you – at any time.

Joining Additional Groups

If more than two Groups are of particular interest you are welcome to join additional Groups. This incurs a nominal charge to cover administration costs; The CILIP Membership Department will be happy to supply details on request.

New Members can join Groups by filling in the appropriate section of the CILIP application form (see How to Join CILIP). Existing Members can join different or additional Groups either on the annual Membership renewal form or at any time by writing to the Membership Department.

Some Groups welcome Non-Members of CILIP (as affiliates) at a fee decided by the Group’s committee. Enquiries should be made directly to Group Honorary Secretaries.

Contacting Groups

Any correspondence for CILIP Groups should be sent to the Honorary Secretary (addresses are found on the specific Group website or in the CILIP Yearbook), or sent care of the Chartered Institute’s Membership Department. Similarly, contact details for editors of Group journals are available in the current CILIP Yearbook, together with information on Group publications.

CILIP has over 20 groups to help Members find colleagues to share their professional concerns and interests with.
