Serials are a specialist area within cataloguing and this course seeks to introduce the basic nature of serials within the context of their description using the MARC 21 format.

Benefits of attending
Gives information workers the chance to update and upgrade their skill working with the MARC 21 format, and gain an understanding of a significant area in bibliographical control.

By the end of the event participants will:

  • understand the bibliographic nature of serials
  • have used the MARC 21 format for describing serials
  • gained an insight to the appropriate detailing of serials for their environment
  • have an awareness of the wider environment of serial control

Who should attend?
Bibliographic services librarians whose role includes serials. Cataloguers who wish to expand their expertise.
