An introduction to the Anglo American Cataloguing Rules 2nd edition (revised). AACR2 underpins much of the MARC 21 format and so a working knowledge of the rules is vital to understand the requirements of MARC 21 and to produce quality data in the MARC format.

Benefits of attending
The majority of the day will give participants a thorough grounding in AACR2 for both descriptive cataloguing and in establishing consistent forms of name for individuals and organisations. It will also demonstrate how effective use of AACR2 will improve MARC 21 work.

By the end of the course participants will have learned:
  • how to navigate AACR2 securely to find information
  • how to describe a range of media using the format
  • the process for constructing headings that comply to AACR2
  • the areas of MARC 21 that require AACR2 to be used

Who should attend?
Working cataloguers who are using MARC 21 who have some working knowledge of how to use AACR2 that they would like to improve on.
