Sound knowledge of MARC 21 is a key element in professional effectiveness when cataloguing in an online environment. MARC 21 is the only quality metadata format currently available and provides a model for how this area of work should be approached if consistent quality data is a requirement. This two-day course covers a range of resources (books, serials, videos and electronic resources) that present the MARC 21 Authority format.
By the end of the event participants will have:
- gained an understanding of the integrated approach of the MARC 21 format
- significantly practised elements that allow you to work with MARC 21
- developed a secure knowledge of the MARC 21 format

- Impact of the Library of Congress and the Programme for Cooperative Cataloguing on the quality of MARC 21
- Filling out the format: Name headings and Uniform titles (and the importance of AACR2)
