8 & 9 April 2008, London

Universal Decimal Classification (UCD) is a general classification scheme, notable for the degree of detail in the vocabulary and its facilities for building complex classmarks, suitable for technical documentation and for the indexing and description of objects. It is the classification most frequently used for subject organisation on websites.

Benefits of attending
This course introduces participants to the general principles underlying UDC, and to its practical application.

On the day participants will:
  • analyse documents to identify subject content and translate this into a UDC notation
  • build classmarks to represent complex content
  • use the general and special auxiliary tables
  • understand how UDC can be applied to non-text material
  • be aware of the advantages of UDC in an online environment

Who should attend?
Anyone who is using or intending to use the UDC. It is particularly useful for those new to the classification, or who wish to investigate new ways of applying it.
