The world in which children are growing up is changing at enormous speed. The way they engage with media technologies are developing at an unprecedented rate. Social networking is transforming the ways in which they communicate. Modifications to educational policies and practices will have a profound impact on what they are taught and how they learn. Views about what childhood and family mean are constantly evolving.

What are the implications of all these changes for library provision? How should libraries respond? What should their role be in relation to children? How can they maintain their relevance? These are questions of vital importance. The future of public library services will be in the hands of the children of today.
