This course is aimed at Library and Information professionals who need to adopt ways of helping their end-users become more independent in their information seeking. The emphasis is on how to recognise when end-users need information to provide more of a targeted 'push' service reducing information overload. It also looks at how to help end-users set up their own searches and evaluate results obtained. The course will also develop tools for attendees to help them understand their end-users information seeking behaviour to set up the appropriate services.

Learning Outcomes


Understand the most effective and practical methods to use, and help meet, user information needs (including techniques to help users understand their needs better)  

Gain knowledge of common user search behaviours to enable optimisation of information managment practices and tools  

Be able to help users to identify and evaluate relevant information following a search  

Aid users to build effective and efficient search strategies adn techniques to meet information needs
