Policy for weeding and discarding stock

Posted By Lisa Bryden, 16 January 2020
Hello I work in a secondary school and I'm just writing to enquire if anyone has a policy for weeding and discarding stock that you would be happy to share with me. My email address is: lisabryden@king-james.n-yorks.sch.uk Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi, Lisa. I developed a disposal policy for my first school, as none was in place. I'll try to dig it out from my files and you can use that to give you a starting point. I'm currently trying to find alternative routes for disposing of books - rather than give them to local charities who collect without quibble, I'm hoping to find a reliable reseller/recycler that can recoup some of the investment in these books. I'd love to collaborate, as I'm located in Wakefield. I'll drop you an email today. Many thanks!

Hi Lynn, Have you tried Better World Books https://services.betterworldbooks.com/libraries/  There are other companies out there that do similar things, but this is one I've used before.

Hi, Rosamund. Better World Books was one that I was looking at, but it's so difficult to make an informed decision when you don't know which ones are trustworthy. I'll have another look at them. Thank you!
