Autumn Gathering

The CILIP in Scotland Autumn Gathering is returning to the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on October 26th. This year’s programme features:

  • The challenge of the intelligent library – James Clay, Jisc;
  • Influencing decision makers and advocating for libraries and librarians – a joint talk from Carnegie UK Trust and Duncan Wright, CILIPS Trustee, school librarian and organiser of the Save Scotland’s School Libraries group;
  • The presentation of the inaugural Scotland’s Library and Information Professional of the Year Award;
  • Scottish Libraries & Hidden Gems: SLIC’s Wikimedian in Residence – Sara Thomas;
  • A return of the school library strand including case studies, a School Libraries Group Scotland workshop and the new ‘How Good is our School Library’ document;
  • The ethics of our profession and sustaining our common values – David McMenemy, University of Strathclyde;
  • Reading for pleasure – strategies to engage children and young people – Joy Court, Past Chair of CILIP Youth Libraries Group, a CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medal Coordinator and writer;
  • What are open educational resources ? What do UNESCO think? and what is holding us back in Scotland ? A quick guide to policy and practice around open education and open educational resources in Scotland and beyond- Joe Wilson, independent Education Consultant and former teacher and CEO of College Development Network;
  • The importance of networking, CPD and knowledge sharing – The New Library Professionals Network;
  • Combating ‘fake news’ – Separating fact from fiction in an ever-changing world – Alastair Brian, Ferret Scot;
  • A Spotlight on Bookbug and recent research into its impact;
  • User engagement with local history through social media using photo elicitation – Peter Reid, Robert Gordon University;
  • Changing legislation – the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and how it affects libraries – Hazel Lauder, Assistant Head (Information Compliance) at Glasgow Caledonian University; and
  • A post event reception to celebrate our new award and a chance for delegates to network.
