This is an event held by the CILIP Knowledge & Information Management Group (London and South-East Section) and TFPL and Sue Hill.

In these uncertain times in the job market across public and private sectors it has never been more important to manage your career. These short workshops will be full of tips and tricks to help you achieve success in your professional (and personal) life. TFPL and Sue Hill are market leading recruitment consultancies within Libraries, Knowledge and Information Management, with a wealth of experience in supporting people throughout their careers. Changing jobs or careers can be a daunting process, but these sessions are designed to help you build your skills and take control of your professional development, and each workshop will include ample time for discussion.

The workshop is open to everyone, but is aimed at mid-career professionals.

Session 1: Marketing yourself online

How do you make a positive, professional impact online? Before you start applying for your dream job, it is essential to lay the foundations for selling yourself. Based on our experience of recruitment and marketing, this session will help you make the most of yourself online (and in the real wold) to help you succeed in your career.

·         Identify your skills

·         Consider what you put out into the digital world

·         Build your personal brand


Session 2: How to apply for a job

This session will guide you step-by-step through making the all-important next move in your career. As an interactive workshop, we will discuss:

·         how to find your perfect job

·         how to create an effective CV

·         what makes a winning application form

·         tips on tailoring your covering letter and supporting statement


Session 3: Communicating and making an impact

For many people, confidence isn’t a natural state of being, particularly when so much is at stake, which can impact how they communicate. In this final session of the afternoon, we will explore ways to help you really enjoy developing strong and meaningful working relationships. You will learn:

·         tricks and tools to structure your communications effectively

·         techniques to give you the confidence to raise your own profile as well as that of your team within your workplace

·         powerful words to use, and words to avoid, to help you gain influence

The session will close with a look at the fundamentals of understanding body language, demonstrating practical techniques on how to present yourself to potential employers, mentors and industry colleagues.
