UX research methods

This lecture-style presentation will introduce the concept of User Experience (UX) research and some of the methods involved. Each method will be presented in context of real use in academic libraries, along with the actions and changes made as a result of the data collected.

Participants will learn about:

  • What UX research is and why it is important
  • What methods can be used, including some quick and dirty processes!
  • The joys and pitfalls of trying to undertake UX research.

Dr Bryony RamsdenDr Bryony Ramsden is a Subject Librarian at the University of Huddersfield, and has worked in libraries since the late 1990s. She developed an interest in qualitative research and ethnography quite accidentally, when she was involved in researching use of a library after it was refurbished and spotted that stats don’t quite always cut it. Bryony recently completed her PhD research which used ethnographic methods to study user behaviour in academic libraries.
