Home visits - Where the heart is

Tuesday 15th October 2019

Many guises but one aim – Home Visit Library services come in numerous names and forms but give vital access to the world of libraries to people unable to use the library in the normal way. Through ill-health, age, disability or caring responsibilities they are often some of societies most isolated and vulnerable residents.

Libraries can make a difference on so many levels and in these days of digital reliance those without access to online forms, shopping and information are getting further left behind.

Home Visit Libraries are a lifeline that can address needs such as loneliness, dementia and physical and mental disability. They can save your authority money through the power of books, music, film and a caring face.

This conference aims to bring together people from around the UK to give the service a boost nationally. Through presentations and networking we will show how Hackney Council’s Community Library Service works to create a supportive community of council departments, charities, befrienders, advocates and housebound residents to benefit of all in so many ways, not least giving them a bloody good read!

Cost is £25 plus VAT , Refreshments and Asian style lunch is provided by Naz from the Community Library team. Registration is at 9am and afterwards people are welcome to stay for a drink in the wonderful Old Reference Library next door which houses the Home Visit stock and team.

A full list of Exhibitors will be here later.
