YLG South East Carnegie & Kate Greenaway Discussion Day

 

Wednesday 25th September 2019, from 10:00am until 4:00pm

 

Details

Join us for a day of discussion and debate for all library staff across the South East region.  Discussion will focus on the Carnegie & Kate Greenaway regional shortlisted titles, with our guest speakers adding another dimension.

 

Tickets are £20.00 per person plus VAT, which includes tea and coffee, lunch and a goody bag to take home.  CILIP members and non-members are welcome to attend.

 

Objectives:

     1.     Highlight some of the best quality titles published for children & young people between 1st September 2018 – 31st August 2019

2.     Provoke discussion and debate about excellence in children’s & young people’s books

3.     Provide a platform for professional networking and sharing of best practice across public and school libraries in the southeast.

3.     Lark by Anthony McGowan

4.     The Skylarks’ War by Hilary McKay

5.     The Monsters We Deserve by Marcus Sedgwick

Kate Greenaway Shortlist:

 

1.     B is for Baby illustrated by Angela Brooksbank (Atinuke, author)

2.     And the Ocean Was Our Sky illustrated by Rovina Cai (Patrick Ness, author)

3.     Lubna and Pebble illustrated by Daniel Egnéus (Wendy Meddour, author)

4.     The Dam illustrated by Levi Pinfold (David Almond, author)

5.     Hummingbird illustrated by Jane Ray (Nicola Davies, author)

6.     The Go-Away Bird illustrated by Catherine Rayner (Julia Donaldson, author)

11.10am       Refreshment break and book signing

11.30am       Discussion Groups - Carnegie

12.30pm       Lunch and book signing

1.15pm         Speaker: Illustrator – Alex Milway

2.15pm         Discussion Groups – Kate Greenaway

3.15pm         Tea

3.30pm         Results / Evaluation / AGM

4.00pm         Close

 

There will be an opportunity to purchase books by our guest speakers from Book Nook (https://booknookuk.com/) and to have these signed during the day.
