GIG Visit - Rutherford Appleton Laboratory Library

Tuesday 12th November 11:00 - 14:30

STFC’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) Library would like to invite GIG members to a visit in its premises at Harwell Campus, Oxfordshire. The Science and Technology Facilities Council, which has been part of UKRI since 1 April 2018, is a world-leading multi-disciplinary science organisation with the goal to deliver economic, societal, scientific and international benefits to the UK and its people – and more broadly to the world. Among its functions is to support university-based research (astronomy, particle physics, nuclear physics, space science) and to provide access to world-leading, large-scale facilities across a range of physical and life sciences, enabling research, innovation and skills training in these areas.

RAL Library, which is part of STFC Library Services, offers access to information needed by STFC & Diamond Light Source staff, visitors and Campus tenants in a wide range of scientific, technical, management and other fields. Published papers, data, and interactions in virtual environments all produce resources, which are brought together, organised, and promoted for the benefit of scientific research and technology. The Library also facilitates access by the wider community to the organisation's research outputs through ePubs, the open archive for STFC research publications, and participates in agreements and projects to encourage the sharing of research information.

The visit will include a guided tour to the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source, a world-leading centre for research in the physical and life sciences whose suite of neutron and muon instruments gives unique insights into the properties of materials on the atomic scale.

This visit is limited to 12 participants only (GIG Members only).

11.15 – 12.15 – Presentation/Library tour
