Open Access in journals is well established and understood; however OA monographs are in the relatively early stages of development.

This Webinar will cover the following topics:

  • Brief history and context, including policies;
  • Developing infrastructure;
  • Business models;
  • Publishers;
  • Future developments.


Main learning outcome is an understanding of:

  • The place of OA monographs in Open Science
  • Policies
  • The publishing landscape
  • Business models.

Biography

David BallHaving taken early retirement as University Librarian at Bournemouth in 2012, David Ball (davidball1611@gmail.com) works as an independent consultant, researcher and interim manager, specialising in aspects of higher education, particularly scholarly communication and Open Access/ Open Science, e-books and e-journals, procurement, library and related systems, virtual learning environments, staff development. 

David has worked as a consultant on numerous Open Science projects, mainly for SPARC Europe; these have  included Open Data Champions (https://openscholarchampions.eu/opendata/), PASTEUR4OA (http://www.pasteur4oa.eu/) and FOSTER (https://www.fosteropenscience.eu/project/).
