Defining the Profession - open discussion with Liz Jolly - London

10th January, 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm

How we define professionalism goes to the heart of our professional identities and how we articulate the importance and value of our skills and knowledge. For CILIP to build services that support professional development and recognition it is essential we have an accurate definition to work from. Now is your chance to shape that definition. Join Liz Jolly, Chief Librarian of the British Library as she leads a “Town Hall” meeting to examine CILIP’s revised Professionalism Definition.

In October 2019 CILIP consulted the library, information and knowledge workforce on a Professionalism Definition. The paper created wide debate and the consultation highlighted strongly held views across the spectrum. Using the consultation the definition has been reworked.

The revised definition needs to come back to the workforce for further consultation so we can create the final version that our profession and your professional association needs. Liz Jolly will lead this open “Town Hall” meeting to consult on the revised definition.

The meetings are open to anyone who works in the library, information or knowledge roles. We want the widest range of views on the definition so encourage staff working at all levels and across all sectors, CILIP members and non-members alike to join the debate.

The meetings are free of charge and online participation will be available. Booking for attending in person or online is essential.

We look forward to hearing your views.

Places in person are limited so register now to avoid disappointment.
