About the session: Thinking about starting a new project, but don’t know how to pay for it? Been asked to raise money, but feel lost and confused? Fear not, this absolute beginners guide to applying for funding will help you start out on the journey from clueless to cash. This short session will cover:

  • How to come up with projects that people want to fund
  • What you need to think about before you go near an application form
  • Hints and tips to make things as easy as possible for you
  • What to do when you don’t get the money

This session will be run by Tanya Milligan. Tanya is the Project Lead at Falkirk Community Trust Libraries. Tanya has been a public librarian for nearly 20 years but had never applied for funding until 5 years ago. Since then, she has obtained funding to create Library Love, the UK’s first regular public library podcast; received more than £90,000 from the National Lottery for the Care Words reading and reminiscence project; as well as funding for several other projects. Importantly, Tanya did not obtain funding on quite a few occasions, which is completely normal!
