As lockdown and social distancing necessitate the exploration and development of virtual alternatives, Wikimedia UK has been working on the delivery of online Wikipedia training workshops, as well as supporting partners to engage with Wikimedia and open knowledge related work for both public outreach and staff activity.  The National Library of Scotland, at time of writing, has a sizeable staff cohort working on the transcription of digitised texts into WikiSource, for example.

This session, led by Dr Sara Thomas, will introduce the Wikimedia projects and their relevance to Scotland's libraries, and go on to outline some of the ways in which training and engagement with the Wikimedia Projects (including Wikipedia) can be delivered in an online environment, whether that be for staff, volunteers, regular library users or the general public.  Drawing on case studies from the last few months, this session will suit both beginners and those with some Wiki experience.

Dr Thomas is the Scotland Programme Coordinator for Wikimedia UK, and was previously the Wikimedian in Residence at the Scottish Library and Information Council.
