GIG Bursaries CILIP Conference 2017

Bursaries available to GIG members to attend

The GIG committee is planning the group’s involvement in this year’s event. GIG is again hoping to have a stand in the Member Network area of the exhibition space - where information about the Group will be available with GIG committee members on hand to talk to visitors in more detail about the work of GIG and what the group has to offer.

This year’s conference is shaping up to be a fantastic event, and the two excellent keynote speakers, Dr Carla Hayden (Librarian of Congress), and Professor Luciano Floridi (Oxford Internet Institute), are sure to be of particular interest to GIG members.

This year’s programme focuses on the key areas impacting our profession; from technology to policy, and social justice to learning. These sessions will sit alongside a dedicated strand focusing on “Your Career” which will offer help, advance and the tools you need for all stages of your career, and a brand new strand – the “Creative Hub” – working with Manchester Library Services.

And, as with last year, GIG is intending to offer two bursary places to its members for attendance at the conference:

  • the first bursary is offered by CILIP in recognition of GIG’s involvement with the conference;

  • the second is being funded by GIG itself.

We particularly welcome applications from GIG members who have not previously attended the conference.

    What do the bursaries cover?

    CILIP bursary, includes:

  • access to both days of the conference

  • lunch and refreshments

  • all conference sessions

  • a ticket to the evening reception at MOSI on Wednesday 5 July

  • one night’s accommodation at Motel One on Wednesday 5 July

  • Travel expenses are NOT included with the CILIP bursary place.

    GIG bursary, includes:

  • Up to £350 towards the costs of the conference.

  • The successful applicant/s for the GIG bursary would be expected to pay for their accommodation, transport and subsistence costs from alternative sources.

  • Applications will be accepted from GIG members wishing to attend both days of the conference and those wishing to attend as a day delegate on either day.

    What’s the catch?

The winners of both bursaries will be expected to help highlight and promote the Government Information Group, CILIP and the conference before, during and after the event.

The winner is expected to be active at the conference, e.g. Tweeting #CILIPConf17 and blogging about it for the benefit of GIG and CILIP members unable to attend.

The winner of the GIG bursary will be required to write a summary of their conference experience, to be published in the autumn issue of the GIG journal GKIM Matters.
