CILIP International Library & Information Group (ILIG) extends an open invite to join us at our next informal!

Attendance is FREE but we kindly request that you book in advance for catering purposes (light nibbles/wine).

ILIG Informals are not lectures; they are informal, but informative, early evening meetings with a short talk on a theme of international interest plus plenty of time for questions and networking. They are open to all and absolutely free. Light refreshments are served which is why we ask you to let ILIG know you are coming by booking online at http://bit.ly/2oXZnZC

Programme

In this talk David Streatfield will try to explain how he became an international globetrotter (he isn’t entirely sure) and what it is like to do consultancy for the Global Libraries Initiative of  the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, IFLA, the International Development Research Centre - and the UN Development Programme (for two weeks!).

Then for the difficult part: David will describe what he actually does as an independent impact consultant and talk about some of the challenges and joys of working in Eastern Europe, South Africa, the Caribbean, South and South East Asia – not to mention managing a seventeen country survey involving 42,000 interviews and editing two special issues of an international journal where the common denominator was that most the contributors had English as their second, third or even fourth language.

Finally, David will talk about why he thinks he has lasted for the past ten years as an international consultant and share his three tips for survival.

The event also relates to the following areas of CILIP's Professional Knowledge and Skills Base (PKSB):

2.1 Knowledge management

2.2 Information management

2.6 Organisational information/knowledge assets

3.7 Information evaluation

4.2 Evaluative research
