We offer help and support to members and hold a conference every two years which provides a forum for discussion and debate on current issues in school librarianship. We hold regional training courses on a wide range of topics concerned with school librarianship and campaign in support of school libraries, school librarians and Schools Library Services (SLSs). We publish the journal School Libraries in View (SLiV), circulate a monthly e-newsletter to members and produce publications such as CILIP Guidelines for Secondary School Libraries.

School Librarians: this briefing note is to help you advocate for your school library.  Nick Poole has written this to your SLT and Governors so that they can understand your role in the school and what impact having - and retaining - a professional school librarian has on teaching and learning.  Feel free to use this as you choose, and if you have any feedback, please contact me on Chair.slg@cilip.org.uk - Caroline Roche

wrote on the Special Interest Group: School Libraries Group wall: Hello everybody, At my school we have used Accelerated Reader for a number of years but this year I have a new head of English who is much more on the ball with using it. We are setting up a much more rigorous student process with it - they have to take ownership of their reading. We are trying to decided if they should have a reading journal, to fill in each library lesson, or just record what they are reading and what they liked/learned at the end of the book etc. I'd be really interested to hear what others have done in a similar vein and any ideas you may have. Thank you.
