She became involved with CDG as she wanted to enhance her career by learning new skills and getting involved in activities that are different to what she did in her work. Aude chose to join the CDG North Eastern committee then because the division was very dynamic, active and welcoming; she hopes to see this atmosphere continued within the CILIP NE Member Network. Louise Gordon - Ordinary Member

"I work as a Liaison Librarian at Newcastle University. I support four Schools within the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences Faculty. These include sociology, politics, geography, architecture, planning, landscape, law and business. I’m also service manager for the Law Library in the Law School.

My first degree was at Newcastle University studying history and education. I then started as a Library Assistant at Newcastle City Library. Deciding this profession was the one for me, I completed my City and Guilds qualification at Newcastle College. I returned as a member of staff to Newcastle University whilst completing my Masters via distance learning. After doing a variety of jobs within the Robinson Library, I made the move to be Business and Tourism Librarian at Sunderland University, where I chartered with CILIP. I’ve been back at the Robinson Library since 2010 so it feels like I’ve returned home.

I’ve been involved with CILIP through a special interest group which operated at Divisional level. I had the opportunity to take on a variety of roles and help organise different events and workshops. I also served on the National Committee of the Career Development Group. Being involved with CILIP helps me get the most from my membership, make useful contacts with information professionals across the area and learn more about what’s going on in other sectors. I also have the opportunity to event plan, use my communication skills and learn from others.

I am currently Secretary for the members network in the North East. As you’d expect I organise meetings, correspond with existing and potential committee members and take minutes. I also liaise with CILIP, complete paperwork, keep records and create news information to be communicated to members."

Louise also has an interesting blog.

James Kearney - Ordinary Member

Although he is currently studying English Literature and History at St John's College, Durham University, where he also volunteers in his college library as the student common room library rep, the bulk of his time working behind the counter in libraries is during university holidays, when he volunteers as a library assistant at Harlaxton College, near Grantham, and as an archives assistant at The King's School, Grantham.

His first step into the world of libraries was his application for a pupil librarian position in his secondary school, The King's School, Grantham. Having become the senior pupil librarian in his final year of A-Levels, he was nominated, shortlisted and announced a finalist of the inaugural national Pupil Library Assistant of the Year award.

When James is not writing his next essay, shelving library books, or experimenting with web2.0, he enjoys walking, cycling, creative writing and, of course, reading! His favourite writers include Kazuo Ishiguro, Margaret Atwood and Sylvia Plath.
