Winner of the 2017 James Olle Award announced

The CILIP Library & Information History Group are delighted to announced that the 2017 James Ollé Award has been awarded to Melanie Manwaring-McKay (Event Organiser and Administrator for the Research Department, Inverness College, University of The Highlands and Islands).

Melanie is working on the collection of books made by Charles Fraser Mackintosh (1828-1901), an important figure in Inverness - a local historian, MP and a member of the Napier Commission. His collection of 5000 books is housed in Inverness Library. Melanie is presently doing a part-time Masters degree on Fraser Mackintosh and his book collection. He spent the last decade of his life living in Bournemouth and whilst an MP he had a house in London. Melanie intends to use the Ollé Prize to research the extent and location of Fraser Mackintosh's Bournemouth and London books. She will also enhance an online 'story map' which she is compiling as a pictorial guide for those interested in Charles Fraser Mackintosh and his collection; and she will undertake public engagement activities with local historical societies and library/archive offices in Bournemouth and Inverness.
