Building Bridges Conflict Resolution Book Group Reading Pack - Secondary

These packs set out to provide book-based discussion and activities to support conflict resolution, encouraging students to think about how bridges may be built between opponents and enemies of different kinds.

At a time when conflict takes place at all levels of society, this theme seems particularly appropriate, and will help students to understand both the reasons why people with different ideas may clash, but also how they may understand each better and find ways to co-exist. It is the first time we have produced two packs, for secondary and primary. Obviously there are books appropriate for each stage, so there is some overlap between the packs, but we hope both primary and secondary schools will feel that they are able to get better value for money. As well as the books for which we provide discussion sheets, we have also included lists of titles that would also fit the theme.

The pack includes activity guides to the following texts:

All The Things That Could Go Wrong, Stewart Foster

The Bombs That brought Us Together, Brian Conaghan

The Bone Sparrow, Zana Fraillion

Chalkline, Jane Mitchell

Gorilla Dawn, Gill Lewis

Survivors of the Holocaust, Zane Whittingham and Ryan Jones

If You Were Me, Sam Hepburn

Mind The Gap, Phil Earle

Never Ending, Martyn Bedford

Peace Maker, Malorie Blackman

School for Skylarks, Sam Angus

Stop The Train, Geraldine McCaughrean

Tender Earth, Sita Brahmachari

Unbecoming, Jenny Downham

We Can Be Heroes, Catherine Bruton

Winter Song, J-C Mourievat
