Competitive intelligence officers and analysts

Competitive intelligence officers work in commercial organisations gathering, analysing and distributing information on customers, products, competitors and other aspects of the commercial and economic environment to support strategic decision making within an organisation.

They gather, analyse and summarise information into briefing documents, presentations and databases usually for lawyers, senior executives and research and development departments.

Qualifications and experience

The usual career path for a competitive intelligence officer is from an information management background, some graduate roles are available and these usually favour applicants with a LIS or research methods qualification.
