  • Morning session 10:00 - 13:15 (registration from 09:30)
  • Afternoon session 14:00 - 17:15 (registration from 13:30)

The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will be implemented in the UK in May 2018 as the Data Protection Act 2018. While data protection laws are not anything new in the UK, these new regulations will increase accountability and transparency requirements and enhance the rights of those who personal data you are collecting. It is therefore really important that library and information services understand their legal obligations and what to do next.

This practical half-day training event, developed for CILIP by Naomi Korn Copyright Consultancy (NKCC), will look at the scope of the new GDPR and the impact will it have on organisations. A workshop style training session, there will be interactive sessions and group work to engage participants and enable questions and discussions.

It is ideal for staff across all library and information sectors, including managers, those in or likely to take on data protection officer roles and staff who collect and process personal data.

By attending this workshop you will:

  • Gain a working knowledge of your data protection obligations under current and new legislation
  • Gain an understanding of some of the library and information specific issues related to data protection
  • Develop an action plan outlining your next steps following the training
