Leading rhyme time and story time in public libraries

A CILIP Training Session for Staff Working in Public Libraries

Half-Day Course, at the Hall, Balham Library, London

14 June 2022 10am-1pm (arrive at 9.45 for registration)

This training event explores the role and value of rhyme time and story time sessions and identify ways to deliver them successfully. It is suitable for beginners and those who want to develop their skills in this area. In the session you will learn to identify the right material for you and skills to boost your confidence.

This training is participative and practical and is a face-to-face event (unless Covid-19 restrictions apply, in which case it will be delivered online using Zoom).

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the role and value of rhyme time and story time sessions
  • Learn the elements/techniques in delivering a session
  • Learn how to modify a session for different audiences
  • Have the opportunity to practice in a safe and friendly environment
  • Gain confidence in delivering sessions

The trainer: Rebecca Gediking 

Rebecca Gediking is currently the Head of Bromley Libraries, Archives and Museum. Rebecca was GLL's Library Specialist for Children and Young People from 2012-2019. Rebecca has worked in public libraries for 18 years primarily as a children's librarian. Rebecca has worked with the Reading Agency, Booktrust, as a consultant and she has lectured at UCL on public library services for children. Rebecca was the 2012 Blue Peter Book Awards Librarian Judge.
