Why an HE Hub?

Why have we launched an HE Hub?

With CILIP’s membership drawn from the full spectrum of library and information sector, we are creating new hubs for each of the main sectors so that members and non-members alike can more easily find CILIP’s relevant and valuable information in one place. Naturally enough more content and resources are available for full members.

We’ve started with the higher education sector, as it is the single largest employer of library and information workers in the UK and the single largest contributor to CILIP’s membership. According to recent research, the UK’s higher education sector employs nearly 1 in 5 of all information professionals.

Whilst higher education is facing a number of headwinds, these cannot detract from the enormous expansion of the sector in the last two decades and its importance to the UK economy and the information sector. Notable is the standing of UK universities globally, and they continue to be highly successful in attracting international students. The gross contribution of international students to the UK economy is estimated at nearly £26 billion, supporting some 250,000 jobs and is estimated to employ or support 3% of the UK’s workforce.

As part of its campaign to increase the voice and profile of the UK’s library and information workforce, CILIP has adopted a lower priced membership model to increase the size of our membership and the reach of our campaigns. We're are inviting non-members to experience a taste of the benefits of being a part of CILIP, but most of all, we'd like you to join.
