Clarification: the role of CILIP Board members and Presidential team

Questions have been raised about potential conflicts of interest as members of the CILIP Board and Presidential team are either currently, or have previously, been involved in the governance of Libraries Connected - formerly The Society of Chief Librarians. Having a range of experiences, skills and perspectives amongst Board members and the Presidential team greatly supports the strategic decision-making of the Board, and to manage potential conflicts of interest each member of the Board and Presidential team completes a Register of Interests form which details their paid employment, trusteeships of other organisations and any benefits or payments received from CILIP. At each Board meeting those attending are required to declare any conflicts of interest, depending on the agenda, and as a result those affected will potentially leave the meeting for an agenda item or recuse themselves from decision making.

CILIP understands that Libraries Connected’s discussions with Sopra Steria were conducted under a strict non-disclosure agreement, governed by the UK Visa & Immigration service. While there was not engagement with CILIP before the announcement of the Sopra Steria contract we are working with Libraries Connected to ensure there are improved communications between the two organisations in the future.
