Who we represent

Who we represent

Harnessing the power of knowledge, information and data is central to our social and economic future.  45% of the value generated by the UK economy - £0.9tn in 2016 - is from 'knowledge intensive sectors'.

CILIP works across the UK and represents a UK workforce of 87,000 information professionals working across the private, public and third sectors to unlock the value of information.  We develop their skills and expertise and advocate for their roles in transforming communities and businesses across the country.

What information professionals do

Information professional is an umbrella term for librarians, information managers, knowledge managers and data professionals. Information professionals are united by a common set of skills and ethics.
