As part of the liaison work between CILIP’s Rare Books & Special Collections Group and the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association (ABA), we are able to offer a visit to Cecil Court in the West End of London. Cecil Court contains about a dozen antiquarian book, map and print shops – see www.cecilcourt.co.uk – most of which are members of the ABA. This will be an opportunity to meet some of the specialist booksellers, to learn more about the workings of the rare book trade, to understand how material is currently offered to libraries, and to make new and potentially useful contacts. The shops that are hosting this visit are:

Bryars and Bryars (http://www.bryarsandbryars.co.uk) – map- and bookshop

Peter Ellis (http://www.peterellisbooks.com) – dealer in modern firsts, illustrated books, literature, art and travel

Marchpane (http://www.marchpane.com) – children's books specialists

Other shops on Cecil Court can, of course, be visited in an informal manner on this occasion.

This event is free for members of the CILIP Rare Books & Special Collection Group, but numbers are limited to a maximum of 15. To book your place please contact Tim Pye tim.pye@nationaltrust.org.uk, quoting your CILIP membership number.
