CILIP Rare Books and Special Collections Group Member Visit to the University of Glasgow’s Special Collections and 'Ingenious Impressions’ incunabula exhibition.
Enjoy an introduction to and tour of Special Collections at the University of Glasgow, one of the foremost resources in Scotland for academic research and teaching. The collections contain over 200,000 manuscript items and around 200,000 printed works. Subject strengths include art, languages, literature, history and the history of law, science and medicine http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/specialcollections/
After the general tour and talk, there will be an introduction to and an opportunity to see the exhibition 'Ingenious Impressions: the coming of the book' at the Hunterian Art Gallery at the University of Glasgow. This exhibition showcases 64 of the 1000+ incunabula found in the University's Special Collections, tracing their development from manuscript to print and their 500 years of ownership history. It is based on the research of a nearly completed five year project to catalogue the books in detail (http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/incunabula/)
