Policy Inquiry into FE
CILIP’s policy inquiries help us to develop key professional policy positions which help support and promote the interests of information and library professionals and information users. Between July 2016 amd March 2017, we undertook a policy inquiry into further education in the UK to answer the question:
What is the role of library, information and knowledge professionals and the services they provide in helping FE leaders and teaching staff meet the challenges of the next 10 years?
The evidence gathering stage of the inquiry was based around an online survey of FE librarians, a roundtable session and questionnaire to college principals and senior management teams.
The main output from the inquiry will be an advocacy framework which sets out the key drivers currently evident in FE and how FE library services and library staff contribute to the overall aims of the college and, more generally, national policy objectives for FE.
The advocacy framework will be supported by evidence of the impact library interventions have upon college stakeholders - students, teachers and the wider college community.
CILIP is planning to publish the final report, advocacy framework and supporting evidence tables in the Autumn.
