To look toward the future of school libraries by encouraging all involved to share good practice on the questions of today: literacy initiatives vs. reading for pleasure; information skills for the net savvy generation; legal and responsible use of e-resources;, monitoring and reviewing our own impact in school; and much more - all with a view to arming ourselves for the challenges ahead.

Librarians in attendance will also have the opportunity to meet local and national authors as well as library resources providers at our exhibition space.

Workshop options

  • Running Project Qualifications (EPQ) from the Library lead by Barbara Band & Nancy Cheeseman: increasingly librarians are involved in the EPQ. This workshop will look at exemplars of work, the course specifications and the issues with running it.
  • Augmented Reality and Apps in the library lead by Barbara Ferramosca: the workshop will explore how tablets and apps can enhance the pupils’ and parents’ experience of the library service, assist the librarian in outreaching and promote reading for pleasure.
  • eBooks and Online Resources for School Libraries: practical demonstration of Wheelers ePlatform and MLS resources followed by a discussion on the impact of ebooks and their future developments.
  • Benefits of Children’s Literature on pupils’ attainment: in this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to discuss how to make a case for an author’s visit, identify the benefits of good literature and a well-stocked library in children’ attainment and discover the latest publications.
