[31 July 2015] The Open University press release notes, "Digital devices such as tablets and smartphones can play a key role in developing children’s love of reading, educational researchers at The Open University have found. Young children enjoy using digital media, and their pleasure in reading can be enhanced by digital features such as ‘selfies’ and text which is personalised to the reader, says the research team."
Their researchers have developed a ‘digital toolkit’ for teachers which will be released shortly. The toolkit lists "criteria against which teachers can evaluate the digital books available before they introduce them to the classroom, and choose the ones which will be most effective."
The toolkit stems from research undertaken through a "Knowledge Transfer Partnership between The Open University and Book Trust, a national charity dedicated to inspiring children with a love of reading."
The press release, which was released last week, can be found on the OU website.
