We have only to hope that the Library Association of the United Kingdom will flourish, and that it will justify itself in the public estimation by assisting libraries to become what they ought to be efficient instruments of national education.

Celebrating 125 years of CILIP Chartership

2023 marks 125 years since the Library Association (now CILIP) was awarded its Royal Charter by Queen Victoria. This year we will be reflecting on the past, present and future of the library and information profession – along the way celebrating the people and milestones that have marked a century-and-a-quarter of progress and innovation.

The CILIP 125 List - Recognising outstanding librarianship and professionalism in the information and knowledge sectors

In celebration of the 125th anniversary of our Royal Charter, we wanted to recognise and honour a new generation of librarians, information and knowledge management professionals who drive positive change, making a difference and having an impact across all sectors. We searched England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (and received incredible nominations) for The CILIP 125 List, to compile this list of truly exceptional individuals.

These 125 colleagues who come from all areas of the sector have been nominated for building positive relationships to support young people; for their work in supporting and nurturing colleagues who are new to the profession; for campaigning for diversity and inclusivity; and for embracing new digital skills.

CILIP 125 is inspired by the CILIP 100 which we celebrated in our centenary year in 1997. Many of the recipients of the CILIP Centenary Medal have since moved into senior roles in libraries, information and knowledge services.

Nominations were assessed by a Panel led by the CILIP President and successful Nominees have been sent one of 125 specially-minted CILIP 125 medals.

Support us as we support you

CILIP supports the sector by organising events exactly like this one, that bring together everyone from across the disciplines and hosting discussion and a little debate, while celebrating libraries, librarians and everyone in the information services community. We couldnt do this without our members!
