  • Information Literacy in the Workplace

    Thursday, 21 May 2015 - 6:15pm

SLA Europe and CILIP ILG present an evening focused on the importance of IL in the workplace and what this means for information professionals. We will hear from Nancy Graham, Stéphane Goldstein and Ian Hunter as they lead a panel discussion on this important topic. There will be a chance to network over food and drink following the formalities.

This evening event is kindly sponsored by Key Note Visit to start searching for market reports, company and people information, building contact lists and benchmarking your selected companies.

  • Information Literacy at the interface

    Friday, 22 May 2015 - 9:30am

In the second collaboration the CILIP Information Literacy Group and SLA Europe present a workshop to enable sharing of IL practice between professionals based in educational environments and those in the workplace.

This half-day event will feature information professionals working in corporate settings and within higher education. They will offer insight into the strategies, practical techniques and approaches to Information Literacy support applied in their respective sectors. These presentations will be followed by facilitated activity which will encourage the generation of new ideas and discussion, helping you to invigorate your own IL practice by learning from those in your sector and outside of it.

This event will be of interest to information professionals working in education and corporate or workplace based settings.

The following areas of the CILIP PKSB will be targeted:

    2. Knowledge and Information Management

    2.7 Knowledge sharing and collaboration

    8. Literacies and Learning

    8.1 Information Literacy

8.5 Frameworks and curricula for education and training

  • Pedagogy for Librarians

    Monday, 1 June 2015 - 9:00am to Friday, 5 June 2015 - 5:00pm

Applications are now welcome for an exciting new “Pedagogy for librarians” residential course taking place in June 2015, with places heavily subsidised by the CILIP Information Literacy Group.

An immersive and intensive five-day course, taking place from  June 1st to 5th, 2015 at Northern College (a former stately home, Wentworth Castle) in South Yorkshire.

Applications are now welcome from members of the CILIP Information Literacy Group * for this five-day residential course, which aims to give a thorough grounding in the technicalities of teaching for librarians. The course will be delivered by Northern College’s teacher training team, who have a strong belief in the transformative potential of teaching and education with a social purpose. The course will lead to an award of “Level 3 Education and Training” (which replaced PTTLS), a nationally recognised qualification.

All participants on the course will be expected to stay at Northern College for the full week, and be available for group work and discussion with fellow librarians each evening to help form a continuing community of practice. The course includes an element of written work that all participants will be expected to complete.

    * CILIP members can select the group as one of their Special Interest Group memberships, and non-members of CILIP can join the group for a small fee.
