Copyright Insights for Academic Librarians November

Naomi Korn Associates and CILIP Partnership Training

Online Course: Full day equivalent over two half-days

Monday 20 November & Monday 27 November 2023
10am-1pm on both days

Copyright and licensing issues present specific challenges for academic librarians who are often responsible for compliance across their organisation. This includes responding to staff and student queries, communicating licensing terms, awareness raising and policy development.

The one-day workshop, specially designed for librarians and information professionals working in education sectors, will look at copyright issues of relevance now and potentially in the future. Presented by experienced trainer, Naomi Korn and supported by learning resources, delegates will learn in a relaxed and interactive online space.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Consider key copyright challenges for librarians and information professionals working in academic institutions
  • Describe the key licences used across academic institutions, including the CLA and ERA+ licences.
  • Analyse the relevant exceptions to copyright and discuss how they might be used in your context.
  • Understand the types of advice you can provide to researchers about copyright and publishing.
  • Discuss developments in copyright law, licensing and practice
  • Consider copyright and licensing awareness-raising approaches and resources that might be effective in your context.
  • Share your experiences and insights with each other and the course tutor.

“Thorough, comprehensive approach to the topic. Case studies to illustrate complex queries. Opportunity throughout to ask questions.”
