Copyright and licensing know-how are essential to the day-to-day activities of library and information professionals. As methods of access to content are evolving, licensing arrangements changing and the interpretation of the legislation constancy being reviewed, understanding how copyright works is vital. This practical, powerpoint-free workshop developed and run by Naomi Korn, will explore these issues in detail. It will provide delegates with the knowledge, confidence and skills to know what they can do, when they need to seek permission, the role of risk management and negotiation and management of licence agreements.
By attending this event delegates will:
- Develop a solid understanding of the UK's copyright legislation, including how long copyright lasts, what it protects, who owns what and the exceptions to copyright.
- Become familiar with key types of licences, such as the CLA licence and econtent licences and of when permission should be sought and how.
- Plan next steps, including how to keep awareness and engagement high at their own organisations.
