Call for Proposals: CILIP Metadata & Discovery Group Practical Cataloguing Online Workshops 2025.

Posted By MDG Committee, 13 February 2025

CILIP MDG is excited to propose a webinar series: Practical Cataloguing Online Workshops 2025.

This series aims to bring together experts, practitioners, and enthusiasts to discuss and explore topics relevant to everyday cataloguing challenges. The webinars will provide a platform for developing skills, knowledge sharing and professional development.

We are looking for contributions where the practical cataloguing is showcased live on screen and where participants may follow along. The aim is that attendees should be able to log off from the session and try something new in their work.

We invite proposals from metadata practitioners, enthusiasts and vendors who would like to share best practices and real-life cataloguing & metadata skills

We encourage and seek participation from anyone with an interest in cataloguing - from public, academic, school, or special libraries - regardless of experience level or training.
Proposals should be sent by Monday 14th April 2025.
For more information, including how to submit a proposal, please see our website: https://www.cilip.org.uk/members/group_content_view.asp?group=201298&id=1115621

MDG AGM & Event, London Sept 4th - Further details

Posted By MDG Committee, 09 August 2024

We are pleased to confirm further details about the Metadata & Discovery Group AGM and Event on Wednesday 4th September at 2pm.

The AGM will be followed by an exciting Talk by Hannes Lowagie.

Hannes Lowagie (he/him) is head of the Agency for Bibliographic Information in Royal Library of Belgium (KBR), the National Library of Belgium. He is currently working on the transition to RDA, Linked Open Data and the use of AI-technologies in the cataloguing process. He has a PhD in (Medieval) History (University of Ghent, 2012).

Isn't there and App for that? Using PowerApps and AI for Automated Cataloguing and more

Abstract:

In the evolving landscape of library and information science, the integration of advanced technologies has become essential for efficient and accurate cataloguing. This talk explores the transformative potential of Microsoft PowerApps, focusing on the use of AI components for the detection and enhancement of metadata. We will delve into how PowerApps can streamline the cataloguing process by automating repetitive tasks and ensuring consistency in metadata creation.

Additionally, PowerApps can assist with various other crucial tasks in the realm of cataloguing. I will present initial tests demonstrating the use of PowerApps for creating an RDA application profile, which is linked to an automated validation file. This validation file can be used to ensure individual records conform to the RDA application profile standards.

The event is free to all members and non-members but places are limited so booking is essential. Book at: https://www.cilip.org.uk/events/EventDetails.aspx?id=1877031&group=201298

If you are unable to attend in person, and would like to receive a link for online attendance and voting for the AGM, please register on our online attendance event page: https://www.cilip.org.uk/events/EventDetails.aspx?id=1882359
