The Prison Libraries Group serves the interest of all members concerned with the provision of library services to prison communities.

The Group is committed to improving the quality of the service whilst raising the profile of prison libraries.

2. Networking & Support - you become part of a professional network of colleagues working in the prison library sector who can be a valuable source of advice and can enable you to share good practice and develop your skills and expertise

3. Training and development – PrLG runs regular training events, some of which are free to group members

4. Training bursaries – we offer up to four bursaries each year to enable members to attend training events

5. The Prison Libraries Training Pack – this invaluable tool is a must for anyone new to prison libraries. Updated regularly it covers all aspects of the provision of library services in prisons. It is available free online to PrLG members

6. Online - the Prison Libraries Group website provides exclusive, member only content – including access to our resource bank

Wider engagement - access to Cilip’s member resources, including the Virtual Learning Environment – free online resources and CPD opportunities access to Cilip's Professional Knowledge and Skills base. Membership will also enable you to progress through Cilip’s framework of professional qualifications.

8. Advocacy – PrLG works closely with National Offender Management Service and other key external partners to ensure that the work and views of our members are recognised and valued

The Prison Libraries Group serves the interest of all members concerned with the provision of library services to prison communities. The group is committed to improving the quality of the service whilst raising the profile of prison libraries.

Aims

  • to share and develop ideas through training and publications
  • to be of benefit to all members concerned with library services to prisoners, prison and education staff
  • to liaise with the Prison Service
  • to encourage contracts between the local library authorities and Prison Service establishments
  • to be an active part of CILIP

The committee meets a minimum of 4 times a year and holds its AGM during the spring Training Day.
